Our story

A quieter way to furnish
a first home.

Norma began with a simple question: what if your first real piece of furniture was also your last? And with a name — from the Latin norma, the carpenter's square — to hold us to it.

The name

Norma is Latin for the carpenter's square — the tool craftsmen used to ensure a true right angle. For centuries it was the quiet standard against which honest work was measured. We took the name because it asks something of us with every piece we make.

Origins

Norma was founded in 2023 by two friends — both trained in European design schools, in Copenhagen and Milan. We met over a worn oak desk and the shared frustration that good, honest furniture had quietly become a luxury.

Materials

We work only in solid wood — North American walnut and white oak, European ash — joined with mortise-and-tenon and finished with natural oil. No veneers. No particleboard. Nothing that won't outlive a lease.

The standard

Every piece is shaped by a small team of joiners who work in daylight, are paid fairly, and sign each piece they finish. The carpenter's square hangs above the bench as a reminder: a true right angle, every time.

For your first home

Norma is for the apartment you're proud of for the first time. The desk you'll write on, the table you'll share, the bed that will follow you to the next city. Made to belong — wherever you do.
